Code of Conduct
1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct provides a clear framework for staff, volunteers, and partners working with TechJumpstart Hub CIC to ensure safe, respectful, and professional interactions with both adults and young people (aged 14-19). All representatives of TechJumpstart Hub CIC are expected to act as positive role models and uphold the values of respect, integrity, and inclusion.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to:
- All TechJumpstart Hub CIC staff, volunteers, trustees, contractors, and third-party collaborators.
- Anyone working directly or indirectly with beneficiaries, including both in-person and online interactions.
2. Principles
- Respect and Dignity: Treat all individuals with respect and dignity, valuing diversity and promoting an inclusive environment.
- Safety First: Ensure the safety, well-being, and protection of beneficiaries at all times. Act promptly if any safeguarding concerns arise.
- Accountability: Take personal responsibility for actions and behavior, remaining aware of their impact on beneficiaries, colleagues, and the organization.
Code of Conduct Standards
1. Professional Behavior and Boundaries
- Maintain Professional Boundaries: Ensure relationships with beneficiaries remain appropriate, focusing on their development and well-being without personal involvement.
- Respect Personal Space and Privacy: Avoid any physical contact that could be misinterpreted and always ask permission before physical interaction, such as assisting with tasks.
- Appropriate Language and Tone: Use respectful, inclusive language, avoiding any language that could be considered derogatory, discriminatory, or inappropriate.
2. Safe and Inclusive Interaction
- Encourage Positive Participation: Foster an environment where beneficiaries feel empowered, supported, and encouraged to participate safely.
- One-on-One Interactions: Avoid being alone with a young person whenever possible. If a one-on-one situation is necessary, inform another staff member and conduct the interaction in a visible or open space.
- Respect for Privacy: Maintain confidentiality and do not share personal information about beneficiaries unless it is necessary for their welfare and with appropriate consent.
3. Digital and Online Conduct
- Digital Communication: Communicate professionally and respectfully through TechJumpstart Hub CIC’s approved channels only, following guidelines for digital safeguarding.
- Social Media Boundaries: Do not connect with beneficiaries on personal social media accounts. Any social media interaction should take place only through official TechJumpstart Hub CIC platforms.
- Avoid Sharing Identifiable Information: Do not share photographs or personal information of beneficiaries on any platform without explicit permission.
4. Respecting Diversity and Inclusion
- Promote Inclusion: Actively promote a safe and inclusive environment for all, regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
- Challenge Discrimination: Address and report any form of discrimination, bullying, or harassment immediately to the Safeguarding Lead.
5. Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing
- Duty to Report: Report any safeguarding concerns, incidents, or breaches of this Code of Conduct immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Safeguarding Leads.
- Confidentiality in Reporting: Follow confidentiality protocols when reporting concerns, ensuring that only authorized individuals are informed.
- No Retaliation: TechJumpstart Hub CIC has a zero-tolerance policy for retaliation. Individuals who report concerns in good faith are protected from reprisal.
Prohibited Conduct
Staff, volunteers, and affiliates of TechJumpstart Hub CIC must never:
- Engage in any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of beneficiaries.
- Engage in inappropriate physical contact, including hitting, slapping, or physically restraining unless in self-defense or protecting others.
- Make sexual remarks, jokes, or any form of suggestive comments towards beneficiaries.
- Develop or encourage personal relationships outside of the professional setting, including communicating with beneficiaries on personal phones or social media.
- Take, share, or distribute photos, videos, or personal details of beneficiaries without consent.
Breaches of the Code of Conduct
TechJumpstart Hub CIC takes breaches of the Code of Conduct seriously. Any violation will result in disciplinary action, which may include:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Suspension or termination of volunteer or employment agreements
- Reporting to appropriate authorities if the breach involves criminal behavior
