Government-backed tech skills drive will help our community to flourish

We are very happy indeed to hear about the government’s recent decision to invest £187 million into the ‘TechFirst’ national skills programme to bring digital skills and AI learning into classrooms and communities. It is promising to see support gathering for what can be a life-changing opportunity for young people and those from underrepresented backgrounds. Here at TechJumpStart hub, we wholeheartedly agree that this skills drive will help break down barriers to opportunity, creating a fairer society and a more hopeful future for our young people.

‘TechYouth’, a flagship strand of this programme, backed by £24 million of government funding, will give 1 million secondary school pupils over three years across all schools in the UK the chance to access new skills training and career paths. As Technology Secretary Peter Kyle comments, “embedding these skills into our education system and local communities will help people of all backgrounds and ensure tech talent flourishes in every corner of our nation.”

At TechJumptstart, we are also dedicated to fostering a community where every individual is empowered to reach their fullest potential which is why we offer:

1. Skills Training: Hands-on digital literacy and tech workshops.

2. Mentorship: Personalized guidance from our partner industry professionals.

3. Community Support: Inclusive, safe spaces for learning and growth.

4. Career Pathways: Resources and connections for tech employment.

‘Be Courageous in Technology’ is a fully funded, life-changing opportunity designed to equip women and young people from underrepresented backgrounds in Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East UK with digital skills, career tools, and confidence to thrive in the tech industry and beyond. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, this free programme provides practical training, mentoring, and career guidance to bridge the digital divide, empowering individuals with the skills and connections needed for economic independence and reducing social inequalities. See more about our ‘Be Courageous in Technology’ programme, including details on how to apply, here.
